Desdemona in Othello
Desdemona is a beautiful, young, snowy, Venetian debutante, her fathers pride and joy. notwithstanding she refuses to wed all of the rich, handsome Venetian men that everyone expects her to marry. Instead, she elopes with Othello an elderly black man, an noncitizen to Venetian hostelry. Turns out, this is a pretty feisty move Desdemona not only defies her fathers expectations (that she marry a white man of his choosing), she similarly thumbs her nose at a society that largely disapproves of motley marriages. In this way, Desdemonas family relationship with Othello speaks to the plays concerns with sixteenth cytosine attitudes about sex, gender, and race, which we dispute in more detail in our Themes section. From Fair Warrior to victim of Abuse. \nLike Othello, Desdemona undergoes a dramatic transmutation over the turn tail of the play. At the plays beginning, Desdemonas an chivalrous spirit when her new husband is called forth for military occupation in Cyprus , she begs to go with him and cant stand the conception of remaining at home, where there isnt any action. This isnt so surprising, effrontery that Desdemona seems to be displace to Othellos exciting past. We get hold of that Othello wooed Desdemona by corpulent stories of action, adventure, and danger, and that Desdemona consumed these tales with a grabby ear. We also deal that Desdemona has said she wishes the area had made her a man wish well Othello, which could mean that she valued to marry a man deal Othello, or that wishes she were a man give care Othello, instead of a woman.
